Palais Garnier Mysteries and Legends Tour
"He who has not learned to hide his sadness behind a mask of joy... will never be a Parisian.". Thanks to famous quotes like this, the novel "The Phantom of the Opera", written by Gaston Leroux in 1910, remains a classic of Gothic literature. The novel is set in the Palais Garnier Opera House in Paris, and we will take a tour of this iconic building to discover some of its most fascinating mysteries and legends.
Did the character of Erik, the protagonist of the novel, really exist? Leroux describes him in the book as a lonely, sullen, but above all gloomy type: "Under the mask, his eyes did not let me out of sight; I felt the weight of his immobile pupils sunk into me"
We will explore the orchestra stalls of the Garnier Opera House, as well as some of the exclusive box areas and magical hidden corners of the theatre where, according to legend, unexplained events have taken place.
Lights have been known to turn on and off without warning. Some Opera singers have vowed to never perform in Paris again due to something they witnessed in their dressing room. You will hear endless rumors and legends, such as these, as we tour this iconic building. Our visit concludes in the beautiful Great Staircase of the main hall.
