Come and join us on this tour of the Essonne marshes where we'll see lsuh vegetation and numerous species of birds and wildlife. Its the perfect escape from Paris to immerse yourself in nature!
Essonne Marshes Tour
We'll meet you at Gare de Lyon at 9.10 am and travel by train to the neighbouring department of Essonne. There you'll discover a place little known to Parisians themselves: the Essonne marshes.
You'll begin an 8 mile (13-kilometre) walk, sometimes on a thin strip of land bordered by bushes and cereal fields, sometimes on a path offering a magnificent view of the banks of the many marshes and ponds crossed by the Essonne River. Your camera roll will be full of pictures!
These marshes are also renowned for the richness of the wildlife that inhabit them. Various lookout huts scattered along the route allow you to observe the birds of the region in complete tranquillity: herons, ducks, geese, coots, etc. Of the one hundred and fifty species that nest in the Ile-de-France region, almost half are found in these marshes!
Next we'll head for the Villeroy park to discover a spectacular avenue of giant sequoias, the most massive trees on Earth! The avenue was planted in 1887 at the request of the Darblay family, who owned the property. At 2625 feet (800 metres) long and with 134 trees, it's the second-longest avenue in Europe!
After 6 hours of activity, you will be back at the Gare de Lyon, where the tour will end.
