Set off for a two-day trip to the Loire Valley from Paris and explore the most beautiful châteaux of the region while you go back in time to the Renaissance period.
Day 1: Paris - Amboise - Villandry - Tours
At 7:15am you’ll depart on an air-conditioned coach from central Paris to the Château d’Amboise. During the 2-hour-and-a-half journey, sit back and enjoy the picturesque French countryside until you get to your destination. Amboise, a UNESCO World Heritage site, was refurbished by Charles VIII and François I and housed the court of the Valois kings. The Castle is a perfect example of French Renaissance architecture and the monarch’s love of Renaissance art is visible as you tour this impressive building. Follow your guide to the chapel, where Leonardo da Vinci’s tomb is located. After the guided tour, you’ll have time to have lunch at your own leisure.
After lunch, head to the Château du Clos Lucé, which is only a 10-minute walk away. Famous for being the residence of Leonardo da Vinci during the last three of his life. During the guided-tour of the castle, you’ll admire some of his legendary inventions. Get on board the coach and head to the Château de Villandry and its romantic gardens. This beautiful site is where many couples propose.
The day will end with a guided visit of Tours, a magnificent city just one-hour drive from Villandry. Its picturesque half-timbered houses are one of the highlights of Tours. You’ll have dinner at the hotel and spend the night in this delightful city.
Day 2: Tours - Chenonceau - Cheverny - Chambord - Paris
After a good breakfast at the hotel, you’ll head to the Château de Chenonceau, the most-visited private monument in France. The guide will explain in detail its magnificent rooms and its complete art gallery with masterpieces by Murillo, Rubens and Tintoretto. The following stop will be the Château de Cheverny. It’s imposing façade inspired Hergé, the famous Belgian cartoonist, when drawing the mansion of Captain Haddock, Tintin’s friend.
When the tour is finished, you’ll have a delicious French lunch (beverages not included) in the Saint-Hubert Cour Cheverny. The next stop is the magnificent Château de Chambord, located just half an hour away. It is the largest castle in the region. One of its highlights includes a surprising double-helix staircase designed by Leonardo da Vinci.
The 2-day tour will end in Chambord. The coach will return to Paris and drop you off at 7 pm in the city centre.
The tour includes one-night accommodation at the Hotel Mercure Tours Nord or similar in Tours with dinner and breakfast.
