Fontainebleau Forest Hiking Tour

We'll meet at 9 am at the Gare de Lyon station to go by train to the Fontainebleau Avon station. After a 30-minute ride, we'll arrive at our destination and begin a 4-hour, 8-mile (13 km) hike through the largest forest in the Ile-de-France region. Let's go!

A little history

The forest of Fontainebleau is an ancient royal forest that was very popular with kings as early as the 10th century. Starting from the reign of Louis XIV, royalty would frequent this forest to practice hunting with hounds and pigeon shooting. The popularity of this forest with royalty is what spurred the construction of the Chateau of Fontainebleau and the expansion of its wooded territory, which has gone from only about 8,000 hectares to 25,000 hectares today!

A natural gem

The forest of Fontainebleau includes 2 state forests: the Trois Pignons and Fontainebleau, which are both composed of many different species of trees. During the hike, you'll be able to admire the unique biodiversity and geology of this forest that was classified as a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The route will lead you through trails surrounded by dense, wild vegetation, as well as numerous sandstone rocks of all sizes. You'll discover why this unique natural environment has inspired various painters and writers such as Musset and Flaubert since the 19th century. This magnificent forest will allow you to get away and relax!

The hiking route is of intermediate difficulty and will allow us to make the most of the forest. There will also be breaks to regain your strength and to give you time to enjoy the lunch you brought with you. After about 4 hours of hiking, we'll go to the Bois-Le-Roi train station where we'll take the train back to Paris Gare de Lyon station.
